Hey there lonely grill
Father's Day 2008: another missed holiday for the airline pilot family. John was supposed to be home yesterday afternoon but an equipment issue has delayed him till Monday. He will also miss the only one of Anna's 9 play performances he was scheduled to have off.
"Sometimes I hate Dad's job," said Anna, when we found out about the delay moments after she tied the festive ribbons on the new Weber One-Touch Gold 22.5" charcoal grill.
But at least he's stuck in Paris. He said he'll try to make the best of it.
Two timely pieces for disgruntled travelers.
My girls Dad is stuck at work today too. Unable to make it home-we've already made our Happy Fathers Day call to him. I guess were not alone in missing Daddy today.

My daughter is in Paris for 8 weeks.
Too bad we couldn't plan -- perhaps she could have taken your husband out for macarons at Pierre Herme.... Or hot chocolate at Angelina....

I ache for your husband.
My three are in Germany and Budapest at the moment. I'm sure they're having fun but I miss them terribly.
At least, he flies for American. That's the only U.S. flagged airline that hasn't ticked me off.
:)
Cheers.

Sorry, Tipper, that's a bummer. Thanks, Tim. R., I hope AA continues not to tick you off. Vicki, lucky daughter, 8 weeks!

As someone who has a nurse for a wife, I sympathize with the "spouse is working on the holidays" sadness. Of course, with my wife's job she is able to be home, albeit later in the day, whereas a pilot is out of town. It's situations like that where a phone call makes all the difference in the world and, while it doesn't substitute for being there, it at least temporarily warms both parties' hearts.
