FLOOD WATCH
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE GRAY ME
1119 AM EST SAT MAR 8 2008

...SMALL RIVER AND STREAM FLOODING POSSIBLE THIS AFTERNOON THROUGH SUNDAY AFTERNOON...

A COMPLEX SYSTEM WILL BRING WINTRY WEATHER TO NORTH AND HEAVY RAIN SOUTH THROUGH EARLY SUNDAY MORNING.

This weather, ugh. I just want to curl up and die with a good book. Or blog. But we're off to a function tonight. Time to dig out the lipstick. If I can remember to pick up lens cleaning supplies, maybe I'll snap a few shots of something in our locale.

I liked this book and so did Pun Salad blogger Paul Sand. He reviews: The Yiddish Policemen's Union.

My New Hampshire vocabulary is expanding because I read Janet's Cow Hampshire blog. Who knew?...

A "lucifer" was a nickname frequently used to describe friction matches. These matches were made of a sliver of wood tipped with a combustible chemical substance that was ignited by friction.

The frozen north. Via Melissa at Mainelife, an essay on Maine's Never-Ending Winter. Is that why she's in San Antonio now?

A Ron photo of ice huts on Wolfeboro Bay last Saturday. Brr.

It's cold, the snow is banked around the house, but Mary Lee in Maine is looking at the sun.

In Brooklyn, Ann prospects a promising treasure.

Lastly, a poem I like: The End of March, by Elizabeth Bishop.

Rain all day long in Upstate NY today, almost floated away... ANOTHER Winter Storm watch for tonight through tomorrow! I wish we could set the clocks ahead 3 weeks instead of 1 hour tonight...great photo of ducks!

I think "Lucifer" was a brand-name for "strike anywhere" matches. I remember seeing those as a kid. I wonder if it is a "kleenex" sort of thing where the brand becomes the generic appellation.

Cheers.

Amy,

Thank you for the mention and link! Winter will end soon... and next comes Mud and No-See Um Season! I never thought I'd be looking forward to it lol

Janice

Well, lucifer is a wonderful name for a match. I applaud whoever invented it.

Yeah, bring on the mud!

Where is McCain when people need help?
Is he another Bush?
Yes, I think he is!
