Coming up: roses
Many people love roses but are intimidated by the thought of caring for them.Roses do need a certain amount of attention. But choosing the right roses and following a few basic guidelines can lead to bounties of blossoms in eye-candy colors not to mention garden paths redolent of the sweet scent of roses in summertime.
Growers can find inspiration at Fuller Gardens on the eastern side of North Hampton, where sea breezes ruffle the petals of a stunning collection of 1,700 roses, in bloom from early July throughout the summer.
"This is one of the few places in the country with this many roses in one place," said Jamie Colen, director of Fuller Gardens.
And this is a very good year for roses.
"This was our biggest first bloom in years," said Colen. "The crew just took half a pickup truck of spent blossoms away."
